Cautery Cleaver

At a glance: Pyre breach-side melee weapon · heavy cauterizer cleaver carried when guns run dry · always-available close-range fallback in Scourge-Survivors · not a ceremonial sword.

The Cautery Cleaver is what a Pyre Purger reaches for when the magazine coughs empty and the room is still coming.

It is not pretty enough to be a sword. It is a slab of black gunmetal spine, heat-baked ceramic edge, and a little furnace line running ugly and orange down one side. The first Wardens called it a breach machete. The Pyre kept the insult, shortened the grip, made it heavier, and wired the edge hot enough to seal a Scourge wound as it opens it. You do not fence with one. You shoulder into the host, split the thing that is closest to singing, and make room for the next shot.

Every Purger carries a blade because ammo is a promise the breach likes to break. Firearms kill faster. The Cleaver keeps you alive in the bad three seconds after the click.

How it works

  • Breach tool first, weapon second. The Cleaver is a powered cutting bar with a Pyre grip, not a knight’s sword. It pries open stuck doors, severs tendons, cuts repeater roots, and finishes bodies too close for a clean shot.
  • Cautery edge. A blood-hot element runs under the bone-white ceramic cutting face. Against ordinary matter it bites and seals. Against Scourge tissue it leaves a cooked rupture that takes longer for the parasite to re-knit.
  • Short arc, hard shove. The weight lives forward. A Purger uses it in shoulder-width chops and shieldless checks, knocking a host back long enough to reload, sprint, or finish the target.
  • Not clean, not holy. Pyre cells scratch tallies, prayers, and breach-room coordinates into the casing, but the object is field hardware. If it looks ornate, it is wrong.

Gameplay Read

  • In Scourge-Survivors, the Cleaver is the always-available no-ammo melee fallback bound to F / V.
  • It hits a short frontal cone, shoves clustered enemies, and keeps working when the active gun is empty.
  • Its damage scales with the main weapon tier because the same Pyre heat feed is being overdriven through the run.
  • It is not a selectable gun-slot weapon yet. It is the breach reflex: close, fast, ugly, and always on the operator.

Sprite / Item Brief

  • Oversized industrial cleaver silhouette: short grip, forward-heavy rectangular blade, clipped point, thick gunmetal spine.
  • Bone-white ceramic cutting face cracked with heat lines; blood-hot / hellfire glow along one cautery seam.
  • Pyre scorch tape, dried blood, ash tally marks, and one small heat canister at the hilt.
  • Reads as Doom x Berserk through mass and brutality, but stays post-fall field hardware: no medieval crossguard, no fantasy runes, no elegant sword profile.
  • Color lane: gunmetal, coal, bone, rust, bloodHot, and hellfire. Toxic-green appears only if the blade is biting Scourge tissue in an action frame.

Prompt Seed

DOOM-grim Pyre cautery cleaver, oversized industrial breach blade with short grip and forward-heavy rectangular silhouette, black gunmetal spine, cracked bone-white ceramic cutting edge, blood-hot hellfire cautery seam glowing along one side, scorch tape and dried blood and ash tally marks, one small heat canister at the hilt, brutal post-fall field tool, single object on near-black background, medium-chunky detailed pixel art, no medieval sword, no fantasy runes, no clean chrome, no neon.

Appears in

  • Scourge-Survivors — always-carried Pyre melee fallback; F / V swing a short cautery arc when the swarm gets inside gun range.
  • Pactfall — informs Pyre melee silhouettes and the close-combat language of Pyre-Duelist.
  • Rothulk — natural fit for breach-organ traversal, tendon cutting, and close-room sabotage.
