Perdition

At a glance: the deepest known breach-region · the Scourge at its densest, where the source pulses · holds the Choir Node — the densest repeater-heart on the war-map · the Pyre’s worst assignment, few Purgers walk out · the final stage of Scourge-Survivors; Ashgate is the last sky you see before it.

Every Purger knows the order the descent comes in. The lanes, then the Maw, then the dark between, then Perdition — and Perdition is where the names run out, because nobody who’s been to the bottom has had breath left to make new ones.

It isn’t a place so much as a depth. The breach doesn’t end down here; it thickens. The walls stop being rock with growth on them and become growth with no rock left, wet to the touch and warm as a body, ribbed like the inside of a throat that goes down forever. The air is so dense with the Scourge that the Choir is a pressure behind the eyes — every host in a mile knows where you are the instant you breathe wrong, and there is no severing a single repeater here. There are too many. They are the ground.

This is where the source pulses. On the war-map Ashgate keeps, Perdition is one mark: the Choir Node, the densest repeater-heart anyone has charted, the place the signal is loudest because the signal is made here. Cut a node at the lanes and you blind a swarm. There is no cutting this one. You can only get close enough to burn a wound in it and run while it screams.

One squad came back from the edge of it — the only return on record. Six went down past the Maw. One came up, three days late, with her tanks empty and her visor scoured grey, and when they pulled the seals she wouldn’t stop laughing, and she wouldn’t say what at. The Pyre logged it as a partial sever. They don’t list the other five. They list the lane that stayed quiet for a year after, which down here counts as a victory, and they don’t talk about the cost of it where the recruits can hear.

Perdition is the Pyre’s creed taken to the floor of the world: to hold is to die slowly; the only cure is fire. It is the end of the descent. There is nowhere deeper to go, and that is the worst thing about it — that the bottom is reachable, that a human being can stand at it, and that the Scourge has been standing at it the whole time, waiting to be fed.

Role in the war

Breach — the deepest one, the far end of The Purge. It holds the Choir Node, the densest repeater-heart known: the place the Choir signal is generated, not merely relayed. CANON §5–6 say the mind is the connection and that isolation is the win condition — Perdition is where that condition is unwinnable at scale, so the goal is local sabotage, not severance. A burned wound here buys a quiet lane for a season; it never closes the breach.

Appears In

  • Scourge-Survivors — the final stage; the deepest breach-arena, the end of the room-to-room descent that begins past The-Maw, where the Choir is omniscient and you push until you’re overrun.
  • Ashgate — referenced as the last open sky a Purger sees before the descent; the staging ground that slings them in.
  • The-Maw — the mouth above it; you pass through the Maw to reach Perdition.
